About Penny
Penny is a graduate of Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia where she received a Masters of Education degree in Community Counseling in 1984.  She has been licensed by the State of Georgia as a Licensed Professional Counselor since 1991.  She has been in private practice in the Norcross area since 1988 with specialties of individual and marriage counseling. Areas of practice developed by Penny are depression, anxiety, trauma, and issues of personal growth and adjustment.  She also enjoys giving parent education workshops and doing individual work with parents. Penny has been involved in the hospice movement for many years and has a special concern for those ill or dying.
Prior to working as a counselor, she was a special education teacher and worked in public and private schools, and in a residential treatment center for adolescents.  She continues to enjoy working with teens and children over 12 years old. It is especially satisfying for her to see teens grow through high school and into the lives they have crafted with their families and through counseling.
After coming to Christ, Penny felt she needed to add this dimension of care to her work.  While trained in secular psycholgy and acknowledging the benefits of this body of knowledge, she feels that offering clients an opportunity to explore their life beliefs through the lens of Christ is both clarifying and critical to achieving meaningful and long term change.  While clients are in no way required to do this, she is happy to begin this exploration with them.
Penny is married to Jim Harger and they make a home in Gwinnett county. She has a 21 year old  daughter, Kate, and a stepdaughter, Emma. Jim and Penny are members of the Antioch Baptist Church in Albertville, Alabama where Penny's dear uncle Raymond has pastored for 50 years.
